Write Wild: Schedule

9:30 am - 10 am

Arrive at Art of Coffee and enjoy a coffee/tea and a pastry on us!

10:00 am - 11:30 am
Write Raw: Breaking The Bonds of Self-Censorship
Patricia Coral

We'll start the day with an exploration of divergent thinking. Curiosity and rule-bending will lead our way towards more freedom and authenticity in our work.

11:45 am - 1:15 pm
Stretch, Shift, Flip: Broadening The Horizon of Creative Possibility
Julia Rios

In this session we will deepen ideas, shift perspectives, and stretch into new creative places. We'll use prompts and exercises to encourage experimentation and creative expansion.

1:15 pm - 2:45 pm
Lunch Break

You will have the option to explore and people-watch on the bustling Kemah boardwalk, find a quiet spot to write by the water of Galveston Bay, continue exploring your creativity through prompts and exercises provided by the facilitator team, or hang back at Art of Coffee and work on your writing surrounded by local art.

Lunch is not included, but Bakkhus Taverna, Pizza Here, and Stuttgarden Tavern are all within a minute's walk from our venue, and Art of Coffee will have pastries and a limited lunch menu available for purchase.

2:45 pm - 4:15 pm
Wreck that Rut: Collaboration as a Creative Tool
Tayyba Maya Kanwal

Allow new ideas to surface, and your current creations to evolve—let your mind encounter an unexpected question from a stranger, respond to a partner’s scribble, perhaps hear an old thought in a new voice.

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
A Stamp, A Scroll, A Signature: (Re)imagining Your Work Through Purposeful Restriction
Layla Al-Bedawi

In our final session, we'll explore how your work transforms when you think of it in new physical contexts, and come full circle as we discover how some restrictions, when employed in creative ways, can be freeing.
